"Cathy, I have started reading your book. Oh Cathy, I can't hardly put it down. I have had a rush of emotions and I'm not even half way through. I have cried, laughed and my heart raced....I see it ministering to so many women."

I believe we all experience defining moments in our lives. Moments where we've been stripped down to our barest selves, when time seems to stop and darkness threatens to overwhelm us. Moments where our hearts must fight to force just one more breath into us, to make us take that next step. Moments that could crush us if we let them.
We have no control over the moments themselves. They are powerful, unavoidable, and often life-shattering. They may have built up over months or years, such as that moment a divorce becomes inevitable, or they can sneak into our lives like a thief in the night with an unexpected word from a doctor and wrench something precious from our arms.
I experienced both at once, and more.
What is it that makes or breaks a person during these times of darkness? Why do some people fall into an abyss of alcohol, or sex, or fall prey to the myriad other vices that entrap and enslave us when we search for solace in their midst? How is it that others stand and push forward against the gale-force winds of doubt and pain?
I believe it is our faith. In that defining moment, we must either believe there is One who can help us through our storm and we will turn toward him, or we lose hope and turn away, resigned to fighting the battle on our own. And if we chose to fight on our own, we will never truly heal.
This is the story of my defining moment and the journey that ensued. It's a story that could have ended in the depths of despair, if not for a God who loves us way too much to let us have our own way.
It is a story about light and hope.
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. -- Jeremiah 29:11
